Environmental Health Administrators needed a Management Information System to provide facility and employee activity information that is current and readily available.  This is why SWEEPS®, a  comprehensive , integrated data base to meet their specific needs was designed.

The first phase of SWEEPS®, began  in 1971, and gave the participating jurisdictions program information and inventory listings for their major environmental health programs.

The need for a more complete reporting system ,  was initiated in July of 1983.  This second phase incorporated an inspection tracking, time and activity reporting system, integrated with the existing establishment tracking system.  This allowed for the accounting of time expended and activities performed by the environmental health staff.  The original system used a large scale IBM mainframe computer to process the data.

With the coming  of the personal computer,  SWEEPS®, using a Personal Computer, was developed with the participation of many local environmental health jurisdictions.  The results from this  project brought about improvements in field forms, data entry accuracy, and the ability to process, report, bill and permit at the local office.

By 1992 the power of personal computers allowed the use of the mainframe and batch production of reports to be discontinued .  Each customer was now able to install their own hardware with the capability of locally managing their own data, and run their own reports, as often as they wish.

Since 1983, Input Systems, Incorporated has continued its leadership in Environmental Health software by continually enhancing SWEEPS®,

When WINDOWS®-95 was announced in 1995.  SWEEPS® was completely re-designed for  the new operating system.

Additional modules were added, several improvements, were made, and greater capabilities implemented.
